If it's fleece, it won't "rag" when washed. Fleece doesn't fray. I think it would still look nice.
I wouldn't put batting between the top and back for this kind of quilt.
i may have mispoke. I am actually not sure what the materials are.(no kids of my own ). What are store bought baby blankets normally made of? I did show her a picture of the rag quilt and she thought they were nice so i think i am good to go with that method, but just to make sure i will show her again before i cut them up :-)
