My second quilt was a queen sized Dresden. I hand quilted inside every petal 1/4". I also quilted 1/4" around the outside of the plate. I had sashing between the plates so I didn't have as much open space as you do. It looks like you have a great start so keep going and don't second guess yourself and you will be alright.
