No, what I did was take the flimsy cardboard that was in the frame, cut a piece of batting (LT WT) that size, affixed it with spray glue. When I put the yellow borders on I made sure they were wide enough to wrap around to the back of the cardboard, and lightly glued in place. Because the cardboard was so lightweight I stitiched through all the layers (cardboard, too) lengthwise down the two sides of the "quilt". Cleaned off the glass, plopped the quilt into the frame and put the picture back on. I didn't worry about a preservationist perspective on this.
