I went through this with my son years ago. I don't know about carriers but he would get sick every other month and I'd have him at the doc that day, I just knew it was strep. He actually got Chorea from one incident. I had it as a child also. My doc told me if I don't find someone to take his tonsils out that he would find someone. We did this and haven't had a problem since.
