Friday night was the Relay for Life in Orono, Maine. It was held in the football stadium at the University of Maine. It was a huge event and a very moving event. The field was lit up as bright as day and the kids were playing in the middle. When it came time for the Luminaria ceremony, the lights were turned down and around the track were hundreds of lighted bags with names of survivors and those who lost their battle with cancer. Also on the big scoreboard all of the names were scrolling. My 13 year old granddaughter stood on the 50 yard line and sang "Amazing Grace" in the a pure voice that filled every corner of that stadium. She sang for her Dad who she had lost to cancer 3 days after Christmas in 2009. She also sang for herself because she has just learned that she carries the same gene that her father and his mother and many others in the family have. She has a 90% chance of getting cancer before she is 40. She sings for a cure.
Her message to anyone who will listen, "We relay for a cure. please join us"
So for any of my QB friends if there is a Relay in your area, join in, become part of this group....There are too many names on the bags!!!
