For days, I have been contemplating the same idea. I have two very good sheet sets from garage sales, I want to just tie and then donate to our church quilting group. However, I wonder, well the quilt feel cold at first, when bedding down for the cold Minnesota winter night. I realize that once one has warmed up the quilt stays warm also. For now, I'm hoping to buy flannel sheets from garage sales. Years ago, most all quilts were layered that way.
