I made these squares in a class at the LQS. I wasn't, and still am not, crazy about the pattern. I took the class with the hopes of gaining skills. I originally did it with purples and greens/blues. Don't like them mixed together at all, so I took the purples out and will probably do something with them separately. This is what I am left with. I want to at least make a lap size quilt.

How would you go about filling the blank squares? Solid color or a pieced block? I was thinking if I did a solid-ish color, I could practice a large FMQ in a medalian or heart with feathers. My DD (who will be getting this quilt) says the colors remind her of the beach. Was also thinking beach type appliques in the missing blocks.

I would love some advice from my fellow QB members :)
