Love your "green" thinking. I've been considering a similar move using that batting with the foil in it- the name escapes me at the moment- for my extrememly hot SE and SW Windows. My door is shaded by the porch, but boy, upstairs the heat moves in like crazy. Only I think I will be lazier than you and just cover it all with a decor fabric instead of patching anything.
