I agree with this, just add a full 2 inch border or something to each, then trim them back so the smallest border (on the largest blocks) is like 3/4 or 1/2 inch and then trim the others to match. Then add your sashing. It's a bit more work, but you'll be the most pleased with it in the end I think.
