Izzy posted a Crumb Quilt Block tutorial. I use the same technique except I keep going. I start in the back of the sweatshirt, work up and across the sleeves then over the shoulders and down the front. I cut up the front after I finish. The knitting part is tougher because you have to know the gauge of the yarn and needles you choose. It's all about math. Any good knitter will know what to do. I knitted the cuffs, collar and bottom band then machine sewed them on. Hope that helps.
