I have one of those irons. Hav e left it on many times with no problem, but it is getting old so now I unplug it. Actually I have 2 reasons, it uses electricity even if it is not hot and if I had a fire in my apartment, it would affect over 300 residents of my retirement home apartment building. Should take about 2 minutes for the alarm to go off, then everybody would be evacuated and the FD would come. I would feel like digging a hole for myself.

Upon removing the cover of the ironing board, I was surprised to see how much melt there was - without showing the burn on the top!!! Scarey!! So, Please unplug your irons!!
