Outstanding. I started to do a saddlebag type but was concerned about the problem of it slipping if you didn't have the same amount of weight in both sides. Sounds like you solved that problem. Using twill tape as the ties is a great idea. My DH, who is as big a pack rat as I am, had the shoe laces tucked away and they were the perfect choice.

I too was thinking a heavier weight/stiffer fabric on the back but lighter on the front. I think that would make the tote more flexible for inserting objects.

I don't know how much weight would be reduced with the stiffer fabric on the back only, but for some really fragile folks, it might help.
