I "walk" the fabric. I simply stand at the narrow end of my cutting mat, cut as far up as I can reach, then move the fabric down. I do about a 4-6" overlap with the ruler so it lines up well with the previous cut edge and cut again. I don't fold it because I always get the wobbles. I have ripped, and it works well with some fabrics, but the treads pull too hard and mess up the edges too bad on others. (I do generally tear if I need to get the grain perfect.
I've also used the walking method. Another way to think about it is with division. ie. 104" divided by 8 (layers) = 13". divided by 4 (layers) = 26". Having to cut 8 layers for an OBW I learned to use a brand new blade and my rotary cutter set to *heavy duty*(thick fabric). It went like a breeze. My rotary cutter is blue and has 2 settings: light & heavy duty. It doesn't have its brand name on it so I can't tell you what that is. Good luck. You can also use the flat flower-headed pins to hold your fabrics together. You want to pin it so there is no bump in your fabric. If this is confusing, you can PM me for more info.
