I made them with batting in the middle, but DD & DIL didn't like them. They were too stiff. They liked the ones made with 1 layer of weighty flannel and crocheted edging. These were soft and flexible enough to wipe a milk mouth. I made some with fleece also, and they liked those but spit-up tends to run off the poly fibers rather than absorb.
