Dogs definitely do the same thing.
When I'm pinning large pieces, I lay an old sheet on the floor so if the quilt I'm working on hits the floor, it will hit the sheet instead of picking up small pieces of thread, lint, dustbunnies, whatever happens to collect on the floor. I have to take huge steps as I'm working around what's on the table because my big Pit Bull is laying on the sheet under my feet. Always.
Same thing when I move the floor sheet to under the ironing board. Along comes the dog to lay on the sheet.
I always make sure he has a quilt in his crate.
