Charlee, what year is your 28K? First World War or 1920s? I haven't yet worked out when the 28K was changed. The earlier models had a larger balance wheel and the bobbin winder was set at the bottom. I prefer the feel of the older ones with the extra weight in the wheel.
Muv, mine was commissioned 1914, but most likely made 1915. The manual is dated 1915, and the lovely lady that sold it to me told me that's when her husband's grandmother purchased it. (I now know that Mrs. Elinor Pike purchased the machine, passed it down to Bessie Pike Smith, who passed it down to David Smith, who sold it to me :) )
Does the spot on yours where the metal tin sits have a wooden cover?
