The quilting foot, FMQ, sits higher above the fabric than the sewing feet. It is springy and doesn't really hold the fabric down so that it is easier to FMQ. It is open toed and has a spring on it for going over seams and such. The one that came with my machine is a P2. See your dealer about a new foot.
