I would use whatever I wanted to. I think one of my favorite quilts has blends in it. I don't know for sure because they were scraps in a flea market. But I agree that I'm not making heirloom quilts or looking for prizes and since I quilt for my own pleasure that seems to work for me. to each his or her own
