You may want to consider massage therapy. Locate a therapist that is skilled in working with this condition (some of us specialize in more than just a relaxation massage)...when you find a therapist you are comfortable with, maintain your regular appointments for a season...three to six months....and you may find relief and healing with out the intervention of shots or surgery....it's worth a try if you aren't wanting to see a doctor....
If you decide to go the massage therapy route, find someone that is certified in Neuromuscular Therapy. They can locate trigger points. Go to the AMTA (american massage therapy association) website to find good qualified therapist in your area. www.amtamassage.org
I have had clients feel better in one session and others it takes longer. One client could not lift her arm at all and after one session she had 50% of her ROM (range of motion) back and after two more sessions she had 100% ROM.
All I ask is give massage a chance, its not what it use to be. My tag line is Massage is more than a luxury, its a health benefit!
Good luck to you and hope you feel better soon.
