I've been quilting for almost 20 years and never had the thought to give it up totally. HOwever, you didn't mention your monther's age. It's very possible that she is experiencing some medical issues. I hate to bring this up but from my own experience, if she is making a major change to give up something she previously loved, she could be having Alzeimer's smptoms. My mother was an avid artist...then one day she didn't want to paint or draw. It was a subtle thing at the time chalked up to 'busy' with other things.
