Keep track of what he spends on materials, supplies etc. And you keep track of the time spent on the project. If he is truly a "good" man, he will make sure your split is what it should be. You can start out small with a few projects (table runners, place mats, oven mitts, throws etc. Make one of each to show and then take orders - with a portion paid at the time of the order. There are many business people that can give you advice so you don't get taken - sometimes even by well-meaning people.
