Your cell phones may not work if power is out and towers go down. Even though the eye of the storm skirts the coast, remember it's a big storm and the winds/rain/tornados/etc. will be miles inland away from the storm center. The winds will blow one direction (counterclock) on arrival, then winds die down some when the eye goes over, then the high winds return and change direction (clockwise) as the back of the storm passes over.
