I’m not experienced with hurricanes, but prepare for tornados at our house. I understand that hurricanes spawn tornados at times, so I’d probably not fill the bathtub with water before the storm. I’d fill the washing machine and then count on using the drain valve on the hot water tank to furnish more if we needed it later. I’d wait until after the initial storm passes, and then if there was still water pressure, I’d fill the tub with water for the no-electricity event that may follow.

Folks who don’t have a storm shelter or safe room for tornados usually depend on an empty bathtub with a mattress over the top as a last-chance effort for survival around here.

Good luck to all of you in the storm.
