I do not use the 1/4 inch foot. I move my needle and line my material up with the edge of the foot. If you set your needle at 5.5 or 6.o you can have a good 1/4 inch. I put mine on 6.0, but the retailer where I purchased my machine said 5.5. Measure to see what works on your machine.
