Oh, do wish we were in the same area. I belong to a gleaner group that goes out & gathers excess crops & gardens that would normally go to waste. We divide it up between our members & always give 20% to the local food bank, soup kitchen, senior center & new hopes farms. We just had a fire in our area where around 100 homes were lost & we provided lots of stuff to help feed everyone that was evacuated into camps & Churches. Maybe you could ask around to see if there is a gleaner group in your area. We provide potatoes, onions, fruits, vegies, bread, chips, eggs, & what ever else we can glean to over 100 families every month. It is a lot of work going out & picking the crops by hand, but very satisfying knowing we are helping so many needy families.
