You have a lovely reaction to this rejection to something you love to do. Don't let what anyone else says matter, and make quilts because you enjoy the hobby. I do, although my family really likes them and now appreciates the time and work required.
I do the same about writing family stories. I write because I enjoy writing and remembering and also love the friends I have made doing it. My family will like what appears or they won't, it doesn't matter for I like to do them.
