Just what they love in real life is escape! ;-) I wouldn't add any detail except the tail and MAYBE a small line for a smile and/or a couple french knots for eye,nostril. Too much detail kind of detracts from the batik and the effect. For applique, I like the small blanket stitch with invisble or matching thread.
