3 1/2 seems small to me... remember, your center square is going to be cut into 4th's, so the small squares will end up 1 1/4 inch square (I think that's right!)... Consider the fabric you are using and the scale of any prints in it also.
The strips will be cut to 3 1/2 inches before I sewed it together, the block size would be 9 inches, I think. I will check out missouri site, they have some good stuff. Thanks.
