Well since alot of people have just died from Listeria in cantaloupe I would say I'd rather have the apples. I always wash all my fruit that has a skin or rind with a tiny bit of soap. Cantaloupe, I also use a scrub brush. I love fresh produce! Taking my chances I guess.
