We can't breathe without picking up something bad. No I won't be swayed by this. Still better than boxed preservatives.

Well, FWIW here a 3 pound bag of organic apples costs the same as buying loose regular apples by the pound. I've switched, and buy organic when I can. It's within 10 cents a pound, usually.

One thing that a supermarket produce manager told me that scared the heck outta me: If you are buying produce that has been farmed in another country, they don't have to comply with the use/non use of certain pesticides. Yes, the fruit is labelled "from Mexico" or "from South Africa" but other than that, you don't know what they do to the fruit before its imported.

No worries here, I have my own apple trees and I don't use any pesticides. DH bees pollinate them beautifully so we have loads of nice apples. They may not be as pretty as the ones you buy in the grocery store but I don't buy apples for their looks, I want the ones that taste good!

Well since alot of people have just died from Listeria in cantaloupe I would say I'd rather have the apples. I always wash all my fruit that has a skin or rind with a tiny bit of soap. Cantaloupe, I also use a scrub brush. I love fresh produce! Taking my chances I guess.

I only buy organic apples - and, as much as possible, everything else, too.
