I've made this 4 times just since late September! I can get my DH to do just about anything by bribing him with this!

    Makes 8 servings

4 cups apples (peeled and sliced)
    1 cup sugar
    3/4 cup flour
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/2 cup margarine
1/4 cup orange juice (if apples are tart)

Mound apples in 9" pie pan or baking dish.
Combine sugar, flour and spices in large bowl. Cut in margarine until crumbly. Scatter over apples.

Bake at 375° for 45 minutes.

That sounds yummy. I looked up the recipe I have and the only difference was it splits the sugar into 1/4 c. granulated and 3/4 c. brown. Have you ever used brown sugar?

nope, no crust. just mound the apples in the baking dish, pat the topping down on top of the mound, and bake!

oh, and i tried substituting butter for the margarine and it's just not the same!

I add a little oatmeal to the topping.......and top with ice cream or whipped cream :D
I have also added a little vanilla to the apples

Our mom always called this a 'barefoot' apple pie. I'm off to peel some apples right now. It's absolutely cold enough to make this taste really good tonight.
