Here's the 9 patch and snowball layout I like, either a two fabric quilt or a scrappy quilt looks great.

I prefer to make my 9 patch blocks 9 1/2", using 3 1/2" squares and also 3 1/2" squares in the corners of the snowballs, quilt goes together rather quickly.
