I just went through that same thing for months, waffling back and forth between wood (including bamboo) and ceramic. I finally went with something entirely different and here's why: 1)Since I cook so much, the tile would be hard on my legs. Did that when I taught school standing on a cement floor all day long. Also, I know of two people who are tearing theirs out and one of their reasons is that it shatters everything. 2) I thought the wood finish would wear out because you'll be standing in front of the sink and stove the most, and I don't care to put rugs down. So that said, I went with a stone tile looking sort of like a vinyl, but not shiny, floor. It clicks together and went in pretty quickly (for hubby), so it floats and if you want to rip it out, for a new remodel (hee, hee) it isn't glued down except around the edges. We got it at Home Depot.
