Not at all ugly! If you must change something, I would change the outer border to a batik or marble (like the purple) that compliments the koi. More of the same purple would be fine if you have any. Fabulous quilting in the neutral areas will make this stunning.
That border does need to be cut narrower and another border added using one of the colors from the fish panel and it will be a beauty.
