WOW
I love it, just a little quilting, and you will have a lovely quilt.
Well done.

Like many of the other posters, I don't feel this is ugly. It's not pink and frilly, so if that's what you are used to, it makes sense that you aren't (yet) fond of it.

One time my dad and step mom looked at my cutting table and said "Ugh, that's an ugly quilt. Who's that for?" It was supposed to be for them. I didn't tell them and I don't believe that I will ever make them a quilt. If they don't appreciate it, then they don't ever have to worry about being a recipient of something I make.

I really liked the simplicity of this one. Something I honestly might not have thought of-but now it will sit in the back of my mental rolodex until such time as it may be needed! Nice job, even if it wasn't one of your favorites.

I don't think it's ugly. Maybe a different border would change your mind.

Make sure to post a picture when she's finished.

Now, I honestly don't see one ugly thing about that quilt! I think you were right to tell the ladies there is no such thing as an ugly quilt. It is all in the eyes of the beholder, and this beholder thinks your quilt is pretty and obviously well made. When it is quilted, you may even change your mind......be proud! :)
I'm in agreemnt so is DH, he likes it too.
