In the mid 1960s Safeway I think it was, gave? some nice table ware for every 5 dollars of stuff you bought. Each piece was 39 cents, and with help of friends I got a full set for 12. It was heavy and durable, very pretty, and it went into our son's..well, not quite a hope chest because the 2 older sisters didn't like it, it went into his war chest. He's 43 now and still using it, has almost all of it left.
Chevron I think it was gave out pretty glasses with little squares cut out of the surfaces, still have 3 or 4 of them and that was nearly 50 years ago.
Shell 45 or so years ago gave a Hot Wheel car with every fill up, DFIL made all his drivers save the cars with each gas receipt they turned in for payment. DS made out like mad, had enough to share with nephews and later made a lot selling the newer ones in boxes for enough to make him happy.
