My "best" dishes are locked in a china cabinet to which we have lost the key.
So much for using those!
But I was just given a set that was my aunt's, and we did just use those for dinner tonight. It was a distinct pleasure.
Our everyday dishes are mismatched leftovers of Corelle & plain china, plus some Nelson McCoy strawberry plates that I bought on eBay because I loved (and collected) the matching canisters. However, the dishes scratch badly.
