There are some very good suggestions here. I agree cost might be a concern for the mom and she is just not saying as much outright. It is possible that she is on a tight budget and is embarrassed about it. Either way, you have many good suggestions here for how to handle it. I love the fact that you are teaching young ones to quilt. There is so much to learn from quilting, and I think it is great you are passing on the art.
