Probably not sitting all of the way in the spring, to take it off you have to pull it back a tad then lift the front and push it over the needle plate. Then take a small screwdriver and help the spring into both sides of the plate. Also while you have it off you can clean the area up a bit just in case there was dust or dirt under it or in the area of the plate.
