Default using embroidery hoop to quilt block

I am having a terrible time trying to embroider - quilt - a small quilt on my sewing machine which is a Janome 12000.
My problem is that I can't get the quilt sandwich to stay in the hoop. My machine is new, just got it a couple of weeks ago. I used to have the 11000 but exchanged it for this one. I never had any problem quilting individual blocks with the 11000 but this one - It is totally impossible.

I just thought of a way that it might work, and was wondering if any one out there in quilting cyberland had done this before - that is - use a sticky substance in the hoop, and forget about the ring. seems to me, if I could get the quilt rolled up nicely this would work. The quilt is only about 45 inches square.

Has anyone ever done this before? and how did it work out for you? Thanks everyone I really appreciate your help.
