I hardly ever hoop my fabric when embroidering. i use the sticky paper. first hoop the paper and remove the top paper off the sticky and then pin the fabric to the sticky. it works great and no hoop marks on the fabric. I have never embroidered a sandwiched quilt but I imagine it would work doing it that way. maybe I will make a small sample to see if it does OK.good luck with your project.
