I've made a couple. I cut up the front, take the ribbing off the neck, wrists, and bottom. I made up binding like you would put on a quilt, and sewed that on where I took the ribbing off. One thing I noticed on one where I took the neck binding off, it was floppy and never looked right. So, with that being said, I would leave the neck binding on.
recently I made a vest and a jacket from sweatshirts and my necklines were very floppy and too wide , so I had to do a couple darts in back to bring it up higher, but my next one will leave the bottom band and the neck band on and just cover them . I also thought in the future I might v-neck them. Here's pictures of my 2 projects
