On the topic of kids learning to read... Kids need age appropriate reading material and someone to read to them.
Hearing someone read and using correct annunciation helps kids to pick up many of the tools needed for them to learn to read. When I was teaching my kids to read we took turns of them reading to me and me reading to them. Real books are great and techie ebooks should also work.
