I have only watched the cost since I retired. I maintain that if it keeps me happy,sane and sociable, it is no different an expenditure to entertainment, drinking or holidays etc. I don't need to make money on it to justify the activity - although that would be nice just to keep in stock with supplies. Do golfers justify the expensive clubs etc by saying they will win the next tournament? I think it is the same for our hobby- if you can afford it, enjoy it without guilt.
