I have a 10 year old Janome 10000, and she doesn't have a problem with any brand or weight thread. I am wondering if the quilting thread your machine had issues with was "waxed". I have a spool of yli quilting thread that is "glazed", I use that only for hand quilting on a whole cloth quilt.
