Yes you can go by "Your Quilt your rules" motto. It is your quilt and you can do what ever you would like, this is how new patterns and ideas are born. If you don't try it you won't know & you can't worry about what someone else would like unless you know who that someone else is going to be. That being said I need to take my own advice, LOL.
