I've done quilts with both machine & hand quilting in the same quilt. I don't think it should matter if you mix it up. I machine quilted the parts of the quilt that would have been difficult to hand quilt (lots of seam intersections) and hand quilted the plain blocks so the hand quilting could be seem more easily. I bet most people noticed the hand quilting and didn't even notice the machine part.
