Default Arabian Nights - a Work in Progress

Hi all.

Today, instead of finishing any of my other projects, I well and truly crossed over into the 'Dark Side' and admitted that there is a strong probability of terming myself as a 'quilter'.
I've been avoiding that term, as I need to focus on another craft like another hole in the head - but this project has been swimming around in my head for the past 3-4 years and finally splashed to the surface this morning.

There is NO pattern. I have images taken from a child's story book from the late 50's to early 60's to draw from. I first thumbed through this book some 4 years ago, and realised that the images would translate so nicely to stitchery and therefore a quilt. I bought the main fabric some time ago - it reminds me of sand swirling.
This is the first square stitched. This will be a colourful quilt - think of velvets and satins, jewel colours; aquamarine, golds, purples - I also plan plenty of sequins and beading.
Please join me on this journey. I'm sure to learn a lot of things along the way.
