I'm just thinking 'outside the box' here when I mentioned using an older Singer in a frame. I realized the bobbin is a limiting factor but putting a setup together like this might or might not tell me if a long arm/frame is in my future.
By the way - I just discovered a quilt show in my area for this weekend. Guess where I will be on Saturday?
