My mother was meticulous about putting the name on the bottom or back of each expensive item she had of the person she wanted to inherit that item. When she died the grandchildren and my brother only wanted her jewels, oil paintings and grandfather clock. Even other items valued at hundreds of dollars were deemed "not their style" and I was left to dispose of everything. I don't want anyone to have burden when I die. So Everytime a child comes to visit I tell them, If you want it, take it. It makes my housekeeping easier. When I get tired of dusting something I am trying to get rid of it. When a shelf has too many items on it, I weed out the collection. If it is hard for me to get rid of my own stuff, think how hard it is going to be for a child to do it.
